Train Latin American specialist for academic, government and private sector; and to support Latin Americanist students and Faculty in their intellectual development so that they can become and remain superior teachers and Scholars. LACIS looks to serve as a local, regional, and national resource center that provides outreach, support services, and information to another university units, K-16, government, civic community and business constituencies.We are a Title VI National Resource Center, in operation since 1973 in consortium with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS).

The Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program is seeking an undergraduate Outreach and Social Media Intern for the 2018-2019 academic year. This position will offer 10-15 hours per/week of employment and will pay $10-$12 per/hour depending upon the selected candidates skills and experience. Please visit: to apply. Nabuco Award Winners 2018

Congratulations to Marcos Antonio Colón, for his work “Seeing Amazônia Slowly: Its Connection with Beyond Fordlândia”, and Ella Norris, for her essay “Fire, Farms and Water: A Synthesis of Environmental Progress in Brazil”.  Both students (Graduate and Undergraduate) presented the best essays about Brazil winning a lump-sum cash award of $2000 for a research trip to Brazil.
