“Colombia today: Peace, War, and Protests”

February 18 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Presented by: Tinker Visiting Professor, Jorge Tovar, Associate Professor, Economics Department, Universidad de los Andes

Description of the presentation: Colombia is today living in what many refer to as the post-conflict era. After the peace agreement between the Santos administration and Farc guerrilla, the country was supposed to enter a phase of military de-escalation. Although violence did fall, selective violence has resurged, and now protests are taking over the major cities. I will argue that a unique intersection of economics, politics and social events explains the current situation in Colombia.
