“The Essential Role of Community Organizing in National Change”

October 2, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In March, 2017, El Salvador became the first country in the world to ban metallic mining declaring it too destructive to their fragile environment and water resources. This revolution came after devastating pollution by multi-national gold mining companies, years of multi-dimensional community organizing in peasant communities, murders and imprisonment of movement leaders, political organizing at all levels of society and finally against-all-odds success.

Madison Arcatao Sister City Project (MASCP) is welcoming two activists from that effort, Cintia Gonzalez and Zulma Tobar, to Madison on October 2 to share the community organizing strategies and lessons learned from their long struggle. Their focus on community organizing can teach us much about our strategies for change here in the US.
