Dr. Ezequiel Gómez Caride

About the presentation: This talk presents an in-depth analysis of the inclusion of Green Citizenship in the curriculum of Latin American and Caribbean countries, based on a comprehensive research project structured in three phases. The goal of this ongoing project funded by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) is to understand and evaluate how content and competencies related to Green Citizenship are integrated into the official educational frameworks across the region. In the first phase, the project involved a curricular mapping exercise in 23 countries to identify and analyze the presence of Green Citizenship elements in their official curricula. The second phase focused on examining specific policies and programs that support Green Citizenship in these countries, providing a broader context of governmental and institutional efforts. The final phase included a detailed analysis of six exemplary cases of best practices in Green Citizenship education, both within the region and in countries outside Latin America. This talk will detail the methodology applied-curricular content mapping– during the first phase of the research, highlighting key findings from the systematization and exploratory analysis of curricular documents from the 23 countries. Additionally, it will discuss the implications of these findings for educational policy and practice and explore how Latin American and Caribbean countries can further promote Green Citizenship through their educational systems.
