About the presentation: In this presentation you will learn about the progress being made in the management of the “Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark” (located in Mexico), as well as some of its citizen science projects that are currently being developed in its territory. In addition, I will share, more generally, about what constitutes a UNESCO Global Geopark.
About the presenter: Dr. Eduardo Garcia Alonso is a Mexican architect with a Master’s Degree in Development Projects from La Salle University; he achieved the degree of PhD in Architecture at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, within the National Quality Postgraduate Program, sponsored by the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico.
He is currently Executive Director of the Comarca Minera World Geopark – UNESCO (Global Geopark Network); simultaneously, he develops his professional practice in the fields of consulting and project development in different areas of architecture. He is Research Coordinator at the La Salle Pachuca University and international professor at the School of Architecture and Design of Latin America and the Caribbean – ISTHMUS, in the City of Knowledge – Panama. Among his professional experience, he has directed different areas of the state and federal government for more than 17 years, including his collaboration with the Mexican Geological Survey.
In 2014 he received the Paul Gendrop award, awarded by the Federation of Colleges of Architects of the Mexican Republic, for contributions to research and publications in the field of architecture; he is a member of the Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics.
Arquitecto mexicano con Maestría en Proyectos de Desarrollo por la Universidad La Salle; alcanzó el grado de Doctor en Arquitectura en la Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, dentro del Programa Nacional de Posgrados de Calidad, patrocinado por el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de México.
Actualmente es Director Ejecutivo del Geoparque Mundial Comarca Minera – UNESCO (Global Geopark Network); simultáneamente desarrolla su práctica profesional en los ámbitos de la consultoría y el desarrollo de proyectos en diferentes ámbitos de la arquitectura. Es Coordinador de Investigación en la Universidad La Salle Pachuca y, profesor de cátedra internacional de la Escuela de Arquitectura y Diseño de América Latina y el Caribe – ISTHMUS, en la Ciudad del Saber – Panamá. Entre su experiencia profesional, ha dirigido por más de 17 años distintas áreas del gobierno estatal y federal, entre ellas destaca su colaboración con el Servicio Geológico Mexicano.
En el año 2014 recibió el premio Paul Gendrop, otorgado por la Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana, por aportaciones en la investigación y publicaciones en el ámbito de la arquitectura; es miembro de la Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística.
