Position title: Class of 2017 Alumna
I am now in a Ph.D. program with the Latin American Studies department at the University of Texas – Austin. I have been continuing my fieldwork with Amazonian communities in Ecuador. I am also working with scholars in linguistics, anthropology, and literary criticism here in Austin in order to develop my dissertation work on Ecuadorian Kichwa verbal arts traditions.
I did extensive work with Armando Muyulema at UW, and he helped me significantly in developing my work with Ecuadorian Kichwa communities. I also received academic year FLAS scholarships and a summer FLAS scholarship through LACIS which made it possible for me to travel to Ecuador in 2017. I also had a lot of support in general from Alberto Vargas, who was always caring and invested in my success.
Staff and faculty with LACIS genuinely care not only about your success but also about your ability to achieve your goals. Because of this, whatever you hope to do after your time with LACIS, know that they will be there to support you.
